Jumpstart Native Seeds in January!
Summary: Learn a new technique, the winter sow, for growing our local native flowering perennials from seed.
When: Jan 17, 2024
Time:21:00 - 23:00
Description
Local Native Plant gardeners, Shelley Trucksis and Jean Milburn, will make a presentation about local native plants and their role in preserving our ecosystem. Sowing native seeds in winter is an economical way for private homeowners to add native plants to their own yards so that their gardens work to support pollinators in synergy with surrounding properties.
Provided: Sterile Promix Soil and 5 packets of local native perennial seeds. This year you can specify if you would like native perennial seeds that favor sun vs favor shade vs appear on Dr. Gegear’s list of plants to support threatened Bumblebees! Remember to specify which seed collection when you register.
Bring: 5 one-gallon translucent milk jugs, gloves, sturdy scissors, a small hand trowel, and a box to carry your mini-greenhouses home.
Maximum: 24 hands-on participants
Fee: $10.00 per person. Bring with you to drop into the Donation Box.
This is an in-person, primarily a hands-on event, but we are offering the option of picking up the supplies and how-to directions and setting up your winter sow at home. When you register, please request supplies if you will be remote.
