Annual Town-wide Clean Up!

Summary: Let's clean up our town

When: Apr 22, 2023
Time:12:00 - 19:00

Description

Let's clean up our town, road-side and trail-side! This year the effort is organized by Scott Sweeney of Yankee Lighting Workshop, the Wayland Transfer Station, and the Dudley Pond Association. Thank you!

On April 22, put on a bright t-shirt (why not make it orange?), rouse your family and head on out to clean up your neighborhood, or any other trashed place in Wayland.

1. Pick up any time, anywhere, in your own neighborhood, along your favorite walking route, or along the roads you drive by every day, thinking "why is there so much trash!?"

2. If you want free bags and gloves, stop by Mansion Beach before 2PM (intersection of Mansion Drive and Lakeshore Drive), where you will also find instructions and directions to problem areas.

3. Collect. All roadside items can go into the same bag - trash and recyclable alike, because the latter are usually too dirty to be recycled anyway. For large or hazardous items, email Scott. and he will arrange a pick up by the Department of Public Works. BE SAFE when in traffic: wear bright colors!  Also wear sunscreen and hats, insect repellent, check yourself for ticks, and avoid poison ivy.

4. Let's also clean our nature trails! Go for a stroll, pick up some trash. These are the trails (many co-owned by the Town of Wayland and Sudbury Valley Trustees) that need attention. When on Conservation land, please stay on trails to reduce your impact on the land and on the habitat! Enjoy your time on the trails.

5. Drop off “collections” at the Wayland Transfer Station (484 Boston Post Road), which will exceptionally be open to all Waylanders, without a sticker, between 8 AM - 3 PM, or you can bring smaller quantities to Mansion Beach before 2 PM.

Rain or shine! Let's wish for nice weather, because there will be no rain date. Can we assume that we won't get sleet or snow on April 22?

Questions? Want to volunteer? Email Scott.
